Why treatments fail

Most People Treat Hair Loss in the Wrong Order

Hair loss is progressive. The treatment that works at Stage 1 is not the treatment that works at Stage 4. Getting the sequence wrong wastes both time and money.

Choosing based on what's available, not what's suitable

In many establishments where only one type of treatment is offered, recommendations can only come from that range, which may not match your stage.

Starting treatment too late

Dormant follicles become harder to revive the longer thinning continues.

Salon treatments that skip the root cause

Scalp treatments alone cannot address hormonal or genetic hair loss.

Rushing into a hair transplant before hair loss stabilises

Transplanting into an actively receding scalp can look unnatural within years.

The fix is sequencing, not more products.

Effective hair loss management starts with a medical diagnosis, stabilises the loss first, then rebuilds density. Surgery comes in only when it is actually the right tool. That is the structure every treatment plan at Artisan follows.

One staged approach

One Condition. Five Stages. Different Treatments.

We stage male pattern baldness against the Norwood scale (and female hair loss against the Ludwig scale), then match treatment to your stage rather than to a package.

Early Thinning

Hair feels finer and the parting looks slightly wider, but there is no obvious recession yet. Most people don't seek help at this stage, which is a missed opportunity because follicles are still fully active.

Intervening now typically gives the best long-term outcome of any stage.

Receding Hairline

The hairline recedes at the temples, forming an "M" shape or widow's peak, sometimes with early thinning at the crown. This is the classic first visible sign of male pattern baldness.

Non-surgical treatment at this stage usually stabilises loss and recovers meaningful density.

Visible Hair Loss

Recession deepens, the crown thins noticeably, and the scalp becomes visible under light. Combination therapy matters most here, because single treatments rarely keep up with the rate of loss.

Most patients at this stage still respond well to an intensive non-surgical programme.

Partial Balding

Bald areas at the front and crown begin to merge, separated by a thinning band. Some follicles here are dormant rather than dead, but non-surgical regrowth alone may no longer restore full coverage.

This is typically where FUE hair transplant enters the conversation, once hair loss is medically stabilised.

Advanced Balding

Extensive balding with sparse, fine remaining hair. Dormant follicles are unlikely to respond to regrowth therapy at this stage. That does not mean nothing can be done.

The question becomes donor supply and realistic design, which is a surgical planning conversation.

For women

Female Hair Loss Is Different, So We Treat It Differently

Around 1 in 2 women experience noticeable hair thinning in their lifetime. It rarely follows the male pattern, and it often has different causes, so it needs its own diagnostic approach.

Common patterns & causes we treat

  • Diffuse thinning across the crown (female pattern hair loss, Ludwig scale)
  • Widening parting and reduced ponytail volume
  • Post-partum and menopausal hormonal shedding
  • Stress-related shedding (telogen effluvium)
  • Traction loss from long-term styling

How treatment differs for women

  • Screening for underlying causes such as thyroid, iron and hormonal profile
  • Medication choices specific to female physiology
  • Regrowth programmes designed around diffuse (not patterned) thinning
  • Discreet consultations with our female-experienced team
  • FUE transplant for suitable candidates, including hairline lowering

FUE Hair Transplant, Performed by a Plastic Surgeon

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) moves individual follicles from the back of your scalp to thinning areas. It leaves no linear scar, involves minimal downtime, and looks natural when hairline design is done well.

1

Suitability assessment

We confirm your hair loss is stable and your donor area can support your goals. Not everyone is a candidate, and we say so.

2

Hairline design

Designed by our plastic surgeon for how you'll look in the long term, not just today.

3

Extraction & implantation

Individual follicular units extracted and placed under local anaesthesia. Typically a single-day procedure.

4

Recovery & medical follow-up

Most patients return to desk work within days. Transplanted hair sheds, then regrows over 6–12 months, with reviews along the way.
